Examples of DutiesA Board Clerk is an integral part of the Clerk of the Board team. This position involves working with the Nevada County community both in person and over the phone, coordinating and communicating with staff in all Nevada County departments, and assisting the Board of Supervisors in all types of administrative tasks. Just as essential, Board Clerks act to further local governance and preserve history by taking an active role in creating and editing vital documents, preserving Nevada County's historical record, and maintaining accessibility to the public archive. All tasks require a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. A successful candidate will be driven to serve their community and will value neutrality, confidentiality, and positive working relationships.
Daily duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Document processing, review, and formatting of board resolution, ordinance, contracts, public record requests, and claims
- Supporting committee, commissions, and Special Districts, including maintaining membership rosters and financial disclosure compliance
- Assisting with day-of Board meeting production and setup tasks
- Completing process-oriented tasks utilizing Microsoft Office and Legistar agenda management software
- Customer service and communication in person, over the phone, and using a variety of written and virtual platforms
- Assisting and training colleagues and staff on specialized processes and procedures
- General administrative duties, including research, scheduling, and meeting preparation
The Board Clerk II position is crafted for individuals who have a twelfth-grade education (or equivalent) and two years of administrative experience, plus one year of experience equivalent to a Board Clerk I. This is the journey level class in the series, in which individuals are responsible for more complex duties requiring a specialized set of knowledge and abilities. This class is flexibly staffed with the Board Clerk I.
