    The Position

    Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water (BSDW) is seeking an Environmental Scientist for the Compliance Branch in the Reno - Carson City area. Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning, development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections, enforcement, and technical support services for the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water program. This Environmental Scientist position will be the regulatory lead for investigating, implementing, and managing the Chemical Rules requirements promulgated by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The position will also be responsible for evaluating, tracking and enforcing Public Water System compliance with state and federal regulations. This scientist will perform site inspections, review chemical monitoring data, perform operator certification verification, establish monitoring & maintenance requirements, communicate with and present to the regulated community and general public, write reports and technical letters, and track compliance of public water systems with regulatory requirements.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria Valid and current driver's license. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
