DescriptionThe Senior Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Care position is part of a multi-disciplinary team that encompasses the County of Ventura Safe Harbor program. The Safe Harbor program plays a crucial role in providing support services to victims of child physical and sexual abuse and to adult victims of sexual assault. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Safe Harbor Multi-Disciplinary Interview Centers (MDIC) clinic, working in close collaboration with essential partners.
Under general direction, the Senior Register Nurse - Ambulatory Care provides advanced skilled nursing; patient and staff education in an ambulatory care setting; committee participation; quality assurance monitoring; and statistical data information; may provide clinical and functional supervision in the absence of the Clinical Manager.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The Senior Registered Nurse-Ambulatory Care series is distinguished from other nursing classifications in that it is assigned to ambulatory care programs affiliated with the Ventura County Medical Center and requires that incumbents demonstrate advanced competency skills and knowledge specific to specialty areas (i.e., family care, women's services, pediatrics, infusion/oncology, surgery/orthopedics, etc.). Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure providing clinical care with a decreasing amount of supervision commensurate with their experience. The senior level is distinguished by experience and leadership assignments.
PAYROLL TITLE: Senior Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Care
WHAT WE OFFER- Educational Incentive for completion of: 2.5% for an Associate's degree, 3.5% for a Bachelor's degree, or 5% for a Master's degree.
- Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications. One of the five certifications may be paid at $2.00 per hour for a National Certification pursuant to provisions in Sec. 805 of the CNA Memorandum of Agreement.
- Evening Shift Differential: 7.5%
- Night Shift Differential: 15%
- Weekend Shift Differential: $1.50 per hour
- Continuous County Service Incentive Pay: 1% for 7 years, 1.25% for 12 years and 1.5% for 17 years
- Preceptor Pay: $1.00 per hour
- House Supervisor Pay: $3.00 per hour
- Charge Nurse Premium Pay: $1.50 per hour
- Float Nurse Premium Pay: $2.50 per hour
- In-House Registry Pay:
- Non-overtime is 1.75 times base pay
- Overtime is 2 times base pay
- Standby Premium Pay: ¼ of regular hourly wage or Federal minimum wage (whichever is greater)
- Flexible Credit Allowance: Biweekly contribution towards medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from authorized plans.

Senior Registered Nurse-Ambulatory Care is represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.

Examples Of Duties- Coordinates and facilitates delivery of care to patients of the forensic nursing program, as a member of the Safe Harbor Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center (MDIC) team;
- Plans, organizes and supervises/manages the activities of the Safe Harbor program for the County of Ventura in conjunction with the supervision of the Director of Nursing- Ambulatory Care;
- Acts as the clinic coordinator and manages the call schedule and day-to-day operation of the clinic, including forensic exam rooms and materials;
- Designs effective workflows for all the clinical staff who work with MDIC team members and agencies;
- Conducts forensic medical examinations for survivors of sexual assault, including evidence collection, documentation of findings, and chain of custody procedures.
- Performs comprehensive forensic exams in accordance with established protocols and best practices, including use of sexual assault evidence collection kits (SAEKs).
- Maintains accurate and detailed medical and forensic documentation for each case.
- Monitors performance outcomes and required legal obligations;
- Testifies at legal proceedings regarding exam findings and facilitates training for these proceedings for all clinical staff in conjunction with The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office;
- Communicates directly with the Safe Harbor Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center (MDIC) Program Administrator regarding programmatic and policy needs, issues, and opportunities for patient care;
- Innovates and designs opportunities for enhanced patient care, including collaboration with other forensic and clinical professionals and agencies locally and nationally;
- Collaborates with the MDIC team members, law enforcement, and local crime labs to ensure best practice in evidence collection and chain of custody is essential
- Collaborates with law enforcement, advocacy groups, and healthcare providers to ensure trauma informed care and appropriate follow-up for patients.
- Attends MDIC and VCFJC collaborative team meetings, peer review meetings, and monthly case reviews as part of a team-oriented approach to enhancing services and care for all patients and their families;
- Develops and strengthens new and on-going partnerships within the VCFJC to address the needs of patients in a collaborate environment; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
Typical QualificationsThese are entrance requirements to the exam process and ensure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE- Three (3) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience.
- Two (2) years of full-time nursing experience in clinic and/or program coordination.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS- Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.
- Must possess a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment and maintain it thereafter.
- Must obtain Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner - Adult (SANE-A) and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner - Pediatric (SANE-P) certification from an accredited school of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) within two (2) years of employment.
DESIRED- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Critical Care, emergency medicine or maternal/fetal health experience
- Two (2) years of sexual assault nursing experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES Comprehensive knowledge of:
- the principles, practices, and techniques used in nursing care at specialty clinics.
Working knowledge of:
- patient and staff educational methods; quality assurance processes; nursing committee activities; and
- clinic administrative functions.
Working ability to:
- provide direction and serve as a resource to others;
- complete required continuing education programs;
- work proficiently in emergency and/or stressful situations;
- maintain confidentiality of patient/client information;
- effectively maintain a positive working relationship with the medical staff, public, patients, and hospital administration; and
- communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
