    JOB SUMMARY
    The Communications Associate is responsible for a variety of entry level duties including implementing internal and external communications programs for San Antonio Water System (SAWS). The Communications Associate works under limited supervision and is familiar with a variety of communication strategies and vehicles including digital, print, TV, and social media.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    All Specialties
    • Implements communication outreach campaigns.
    • Assists with coordinating communication plans/marketing programs that may involve writing and executing communications through social media and/or print.
    • May be required to assist staff with SAWS outreach events.
    • Serves as Communications liaison for SAWS internship program.
    • Coordinates, writes, and edits content for SAWS print and electronic publications and SAWS social media channels.
    • Applies writing, grammar, editing, proofreading, and interviewing principles, such as found within the Associated Press Stylebook.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Digital/Social Media
    • Writes social and digital media posts.
    • Coordinates with SAWS staff and external consultants for new and updated posts.
    • Researches and performs analytics reports for social media platforms as requested.
    • Coordinates with social media platform representatives on billing issues and subscriptions.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
    • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.


    PREFERRED REQUIREMENT

    • Experience in public relations, corporate communications, writing, marketing, or journalism.


    JOB DIMENSIONS
    • Skilled in the proficient use of word processing, social media, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
    • Ability to interact with all levels of internal and external customers including various levels of SAWS leadership, the media, ad/PR agencies, graphic designers, photographers, print shops, graphic vendors, representatives of governmental organizations, and the general public.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
    Physical requirements include lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally (photo and presentation equipment). Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with frequent field visits to other locations, facilities, municipal buildings, and event locations. May occasionally operate a company/personal vehicle.

    May be required to work hours other than regular schedule, including nights and weekends.
