The purpose of this program is to provide a pathway to full-time employment for individuals who have received training and demonstrated readiness through their internship assignments.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our team as a full-time Park Aide at County Centers/Community Parks. This recruitment is primarily being held to fill one (1) vacancy at County Centers/Community Parks; however, the eligible list established may also be used to fill future full-time vacancies within the Department (County Centers/Community Parks, Modesto Reservoir, and Woodward Reservoir).
The Park Aide supports the maintenance and upkeep of community parks, county centers, and regional parks throughout Stanislaus County. Duties may include grounds keeping, light maintenance, and providing customer service at entrance stations in our regional parks. Entrance station responsibilities include greeting visitors, collecting fees, and handling cash transactions.
Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Crafts/Maintenance Institutional bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.
Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.
Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).

Typical Tasks - Perform litter pick-up and garbage collection duties;
- Clean restrooms and public facilities;
- Perform maintenance tasks of a routine nature, such as painting, watering trees and shrubs, mowing lawns,
cutting weeds, raking leaves and sweeping sidewalks; - Perform manual labor;
- Operate power equipment such as lawn mowers, hedgers, tractors, and trucks;
- Drive vehicles to carry workers to and from various job sites;
- Supervise assigned non-departmental workers;
- Collect and account for park fees;
- Operate a cash register;
- Assist visitors, answer questions concerning County parks, rules and regulations;
- Prepare written financial reports and records;
- Operate a two way radio; and
- Perform routine maintenance tasks.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience) KNOWLEDGE - Park maintenance techniques and landscaping practices; and
- Cashiering methods and techniques, involving cash registers.
SKILLS/ABILITY - Deal tactfully and effectively with the public;
- Follow instructions, both oral and written;
- Perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, reaching and manual dexterity
- Ability to work cohesively with others to achieve a goal;
- Work outdoors in the heat and cold, around chemicals, dust and fumes;
- Work weekends, holidays and irregular hours;
- Supervise non-departmental labor;
- Lift and dump full garbage cans and/or other heavy objects;
- Physically stand six to eight hours daily in a confined space;
- Handle money, prepare reports and maintain records; and
- Operate two way radio.
