The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency
Senior Helicopter Mechanic vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Senior Helicopter Mechanic position. DEFINITION :Provides technical guidance to a crew of Helicopter Mechanics and performs the more difficult work of repairing airframes, engines, and other components of aircraft owned and/or operated by the County.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :Positions allocable to this class receive technical and administrative supervision from a Supervising Helicopter Mechanic or Chief, Helicopter Maintenance. Incumbents are responsible for providing technical guidance to Helicopter Mechanics assigned to an aircraft maintenance and repair crew. Incumbents participate in the maintenance, repair, and alterations, including airframe, powerplant, propeller, rotor, or appliance, of reciprocating and/or turbine-powered aircraft in either Sheriff’s or Fire Department’s air operations. Such helicopter crews perform maintenance on different manufacturer airframes and powerplants. Incumbents must have thorough knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and standard practices of the helicopter mechanic trade, models of aircraft to be maintained, and Federal Aviation Administration regulations concerning inspection, maintenance, and repair of aircraft. This class frequently lifts more than 50 pounds and regularly climbs on aircraft and ladders while carrying tools, equipment, and parts.
Essential Job Functions- Provides technical guidance to Helicopter Mechanics and participates in disassembling and reassembling airframes, engines, and other component parts, including main and tail rotor assemblies and gear boxes to maintain equipment in airworthy condition.
- Performs scheduled inspections, troubleshoots, and repairs or replaces faulty parts as required.
- Leads and participates in hourly and calendar inspections.
- Makes repairs to airframes, including sheet metal, composites, and painting.
- Provides technical guidance to helicopter mechanics engaged in the repair or maintenance of aircraft.
- Completes reports required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :Three years of experience completing major and minor repairs to return Los Angeles County owned aircraft to airworthy condition as a Helicopter Mechanic*.
LICENSE:A valid Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
A valid Inspection Authorization Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:IV - Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.
