    Job Summary

    This position will administrate all student-centered services for the Office of Undergraduate Research Services (OURS), Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP), and BUILD, including counseling, academic advising, support services, recruitment, admissions, research seminar and supervision of administrative assistant and paraprofessional staff. Oversees and manages administrative services of OURS, including payroll, hiring, training, and compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee daily operations of Office of Undergraduate Research Services (OURS): Assist with hiring of professional staff; lead on supervision of professional staff & paraprofessional staff.
    • Independently provide counseling and academic advising to OURS, UROP, and other undergraduate student populations: Provide independent student advisement and counseling.
    • Support BUILD and Mellong Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program: Assist with program activities including recruitment, admissions review and decisions, research seminars workshops, and responsible of conduct of research processes
    • Manage major research events (e.g. UROP Research Symposium, NCUR delegation to out of state conferences, staff and faculty engagement with Annual and Statewide Student Research Competition, Week of RSCA etc.): Lead marketing and communication effort internally and externally.


    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Ability to work in a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated knowledge of general principles, practices, and trends in serving prospective and/or current diverse college students, including those from low income and first-generation backgrounds. Knowledge of undergraduate issues and academic complexity are strongly preferred. Demonstrated familiarity with the research process to guide students in an undergraduate research experience. It is strongly preferred that candidates have experience in academic advising and a working knowledge of CSULB rules and regulations. Should have the ability to interpret and apply all rules and regulations. Expected to show initiative and resourcefulness to interpret and implement activities that support student timely progress towards degree. Detailed oriented; skills in collecting and analyzing data are essential. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSULB administrators, and students is required. Ability to coordinate student support services programs, research, and program evaluation. Ability and/or experience in managing daily operations in a fast-paced office environment, including ability to plan, organize, and execute a multitude of projects.

    Demonstrated knowledge of general principles, practices, and trends in communication, customer service skills. Skills to serve culturally diverse student populations. Academic advising for diverse student population. Familiarity and experience with the research process. Capacity to provide direct supervision of paraprofessional staff. Familiarity with research process for faculty and first- and second-year undergraduates. Interpersonal skills, Faculty interactions and support, Organizational skills, Academic advising, Capacity to develop programs, Capacity to engage in program assessment and evaluation.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

    • Master's Degree in counseling, higher education administration, or related field preferred.

    • Research experience at the undergraduate or graduate level (e.g. completion of a master's thesis or dissertation or program evaluation experience) preferred.

    Physical Summary

    Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 - $5,125 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
