    The Position

    Contra Costa County is actively recruiting to fill positions in the Training and Staff Development Specialist classification.     There is one (1) Training and Staff Development Specialist vacancy in The Human Resources Department’s Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Team. Other departments throughout the County may use the eligible list from this recruitment to fill future vacancies as well.

    • Conducting assessment of training needs using various tools
    • Developing and delivering training materials in alignment with organizational vision, mission, and objectives and responsive to training needs assessment findings
    • Administering and facilitating training for all levels of staff
    • Evaluating and analyzing training results to determine effectiveness
    • Researching training mandates, regulations, and emerging practices
    • Advising division leaders regarding future training and planning needs
    • Assisting leaders in developing succession and orientation plans for key staff positions

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, human resources management, social or behavioral science, industrial psychology, or a closely related field.

    Experience:
    Three (3) years of professional experience planning, designing, and delivering educational and organizational development programs, preferably in a public or community-based agency.

    Selection Process

    Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application; applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

    Multiple Choice Test: Candidates who demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a multiple-choice assessment. Candidates will be evaluated on necessary knowledge and skills that may include: the ability to collect and analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and make sound recommendations; the ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations; and the ability to communicate effectively in writing. Candidates must achieve a passing score on the multiple-choice test to be placed on the eligible list.(Weighted 100%)


    The Multiple-Choice Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place August 13th - August 18th, 2025.

    The required assessments may be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet; if so, you will need access to a reliable internet connection to participate in the assessments , as well as computer or mobile device with a camera.

    The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
