    In support of our mission to protect life and property by providing services to all Missourians the Department of Public Safety operates the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program to ensure all Missouri Peace Officers receive the high quality training necessary to provide a safe and secure Missouri. We are looking for a person who shares these values to investigate Police Officer misconduct and work closely with the Attorney General’s Office.

    Job Description

    • Locates, interviews, and takes statements from witnesses and persons suspected of involvement in the violation of POST statutes, laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Conducts investigation of peace officers and pre-service candidates for violations of laws or acts that might prohibit them from being licensed as peace officers.
    • Gathers, assembles, and preserves facts, statements, affidavits, and other evidence for use in legal actions and prepares detailed reports of investigative findings.
    • Works closely with agency staff, law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorneys’ offices and other governmental entities in case preparation.
    • Examines and analyzes a variety of records to secure information concerning suspected violations of federal and state law and regulations.
    • Provides technical assistance to law enforcement agencies, criminal justice professionals, departmental officials, legislators, and the general public about POST related issues.
    • Assists with programmatic audits and investigations of licensed training providers.
    • Assists with ensuring licensed peace officers complete their annual continuing law enforcement education (CLEE) training requirements.


    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree, 2 or more years of relevant experience. Substitutions of law enforcement and investigative experience are permitted for applicants who do not possess a bachelor's degree.

    Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of assigned suspected crimes and criminal activity or administrative/regulatory violations. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the programs administered by the assigned agency.
    • Ability to analyze, prepare, and/or present investigative evidence and other data. Ability to prepare clear and detailed reports of investigative findings.
    • Knowledge of sources of information to be utilized in obtaining evidence and documentation, and the principles of identification, preservation, and presentation of evidence.
    • Ability to plan and organize work activities to achieve program goals.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Knowledge of criminal activity and administrative/regulatory violations.
    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license; some overnight travel is required.
