JOB SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY Operates, inspects, repairs, and maintains the City’s water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems and related equipment; monitors and assists in ensuring facilities/stations operate efficiently and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements; diagnoses and repairs system and equipment issues; assists in the construction of new facilities and/or improvement of existing facilities; prepares and maintains departmental maintenance records; and performs other related duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Operates, maintains, repairs, replaces, modifies, re-designs, and upgrades sewer collection lift stations and related equipment including wet wells, pumps, mechanical/electrical controls, and SCADA monitoring equipment; conducts inspections and monitors lift stations for safe and proper functioning; coordinates and performs all aspects of site maintenance.Inspects, repairs, replaces, modifies, re-designs, upgrades, and maintains the City’s well water system and related equipment including the well, storage tanks, piping, valves, pressure sensors, backflow prevention devices, and SCADA monitoring equipment.Miscellaneous:
- Prepares and maintains maintenance records, logs, and reports.
- Participates in monitoring inventory for area of assignment.
- Provides on-call response to SCADA system alarms; operational /maintenance emergencies and disasters.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
DECISION MAKING This position works under general supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Two (2) years experience operating and maintaining water/wastewater systems is preferred.
- Level II Wastewater Collections, Class C Ground Water Treatment, or Class C Surface Water Treatment certifications are required within three (3) years of employment.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
CORE COMPETENCIES AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS JOB DIMENSIONS - Must be able to read/comprehend manufacturers maintenance manuals, work orders, and maintenance documentation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required; must be able to maintain positive working relationships with City departments and personnel, community organizations, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision hearing and talking constantly; standing, sitting, walking, handling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing and foot controls frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling reaching, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching and crawling occasionally.
Working conditions involve occasional exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, vehicle traffic, heavy equipment, machinery with moving parts, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases. Utilizes body harnesses, confined space breathing equipment, and/or other personal protective equipment as required.
