Why you’ll love this position:Market News is an outreach program through the Missouri Department of Agriculture whose purpose is to provide the agriculture industry, news media, and the general public with accurate and unbiased market reports depicting the current supply, demand, price and trends which affect trade in livestock and grain markets.
We are currently looking for a full time Agricultural/Senior Agricultural Marketing Specialist in the Ag Business Development Division, Market News program, to collect and disseminate market information and data.
- Attend livestock auctions, visit grain elevators, and contact other market participants to collect data on prices, volume, and market conditions
- Write and disseminate market reports in various formats, including daily, weekly, and monthly summaries
- Effectively communicate market information to a wide range of audiences, including producers, buyers, media, and the general public
- Build and maintain relationships with industry contacts, including producers, buyers, and other market participants, to gather and share information and insight
- Work alongside with other department staff for the duration of the Missouri State Fair, including the days leading up to and following the fair, some work year around preparing for fair.
- Some in-state travel and overnights are required of this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - Applicant must have excellent written and verbal skills.
- Four (4) or more years of professional or technical/relevant experience in agriculture, education/outreach, business marketing or communications . Experience can come from a combination of direct work experience and/or completion of a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program.
- Must possess a valid MO Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications: - Able to take initiative; be self-motivated; work independently as well as in a team; work well under pressure and on time schedules; be detail orientated; and a good problem solver.
- Ability to effectively communicate, especially as it relates to understanding and explaining market factors and recording market data for media broadcast.
- An understanding of agriculture commodities, marketing, and relevant practices in the industry.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn new software and database programs.
- Ability to organize and coordinate projects and meet deadlines.
