DescriptionUnder limited supervision, this position is responsible for providing directions and hands on supervision of the maintenance and operation of the
Bees Ferry convenience center and HHW site. Charleston County Environmental Management is looking for a highly motivated, safety minded, qualified individual to fill this role who likes working outdoors, assisting members of the general public, providing outstanding customer service and performing a variety of tasks at out convenience centers. This employee’s primary site will be at Bees Ferry, and the schedule is Monday-Friday; 7:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. Some holidays and weekend duties will be required.
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $29.25 - $38.31OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELYDuties and Responsibilities- Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Bees Ferry convenience center and HHW site
- Oversee and review the work of up to 20 employees to include instruction, planning and reviewing work completed
- Develop staff work schedules to ensure adequate coverage, record payroll for all assigned employees
- Responsible for the proper and safe unloading of roll off containers. Along with proper stacking of material onto pallets and into gaylord boxes
- Schedule and monitor all outgoing loads of material, such as e-waste, oil, antifreeze, and household chemicals. Responsible for the proper processing, sorting, mixing and sale of paint
- Oversee and monitor the proper handling and storage of household chemicals
- If needed, operate equipment such as a box truck to collect paint and chemicals from other Charleston County sites
- Assist, interact and communicate with Charleston County residents and coworkers while upholding customer service excellence
- Instruct and train employees on work responsibilities; Supervising employee performance and development; Promote and ensure safety in the workplace
- Monitors inventory of department equipment, supplies and materials
- Convenience Centers are available to Charleston County residents only and this position will ensure staff is checking identification and reporting any possible commercial businesses attempting to use the site
- Maintains standards established for the department through effective coordination of activities
- Performs other related duties/assignments as required.
Minimum QualificationsPosition requires a high School Diploma (or GED), and training or work experience which provides the required knowledge. Skills, and abilities to perform the work. Must have leadership experience and at least three years of experience in recycling and solid waste collection and disposal. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have Hazwoper certification within the first 6 months of employment. Must be able to be able to lift up to 55 pounds. previous customer service position or related field, and one-year clerical experience.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCandidate must have excellent customer service and communication skills, be safety minded, and be able to work well in a demanding environment. Ability to operate equipment such as forklift, skid steers and front end loader. If hired, candidate must be qualified to operate these types of equipment within the first 6 months of employment. Possession of a valid SC Class B CDL is preferred.
