Cook for the 2025/26 school year

Job Location: Missouri School for the Deaf, 505 E. 5 th St., Fulton, MO 65251

Salary: $27,576 annually (based on working 209 school days)

A school-term (paid 12-months), non-exempt, position responsible for routine and advanced food service work in the kitchens and dining rooms of the School.

This position is responsible for performing routine duties involved in preparing and serving food and performing related cleaning duties. This position participates in the preparation of one or several parts of any major meal.

Essential Functions: (The listed examples do not include all tasks and responsibilities, which may be involved with this position.)

The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations .

• Prepares parts of a major meal such as entrees, vegetables, salad or dessert, in proper quantities for serving; measures, mixes, seasons, garnishes, and otherwise prepares the dish.
• Assists in the preparation of several parts of a meal by mixing, stirring, chopping, ladeling, adjusting heat, etc.
• Prepares breakfasts on an independent basis by cooking eggs and meat, and preparing cereals, coffee, and similar items.
• Serves food to students and school employees by dishing food or preparing portions as needed.
• Secures the proper supplies for the kitchen stores and records the quantities used on the proper forms provided. Keeps simple daily records.
• Maintains sanitary conditions in the kitchen, dining areas, preparation and storage areas by participating in the cleaning of dishes, stoves, cookers, kettles, pots and pans, refrigerators, food grinders and mixers, work tables, carts, floors and other kitchen and dining room utensils and surfaces.
• Ability to follow assigned daily work schedule.
• Demonstrate effective safety skills with students, equipment, environment, ect.
• Prepares food items for all student activities and special occasions held at the school.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.
• Ability to learn the recommended American Sign Language competency level of Novice.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationship with students, staff and fellow employees.
• Ability to work long hours while standing and under conditions of high temperature.
• Personal cleanliness and freedom from communicable diseases.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Callaway County Food Handlers Card.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in preparing food on a large scale and the use and care of utensils and equipment.
• Working knowledge of food values and nutrition.
• Working knowledge of food and physical plant sanitation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalency required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Large-scale cooking experience.
