    Position Description

    POSITION DESCRIPTION
    Natividad is currently accepting applications for Telemetry Technician positions in the Medical Surgical/Intermediate Care Unit. The incumbent will work under general supervision, observe moving EKG screen, interpret rhythm strips, document rhythms and dysrhythmias and report abnormalities to the appropriate person. Incumbents in this class are distinguished from the class of Nursing Assistant in that they perform duties which require specialized training in dysrhythmia detection under the supervision of a Staff Nurse.

    Examples of Duties

    THE SIGNIFICANT DUTIES OF THE POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
    • Maintain, adjust calibrate and operate equipment used to assess cardiac activity, and/or equipment used in the monitoring of cardiac arrhythmia.
    • Obtain vital signs as ordered; has knowledge of normal values and reports abnormal values to licensed staff
    • Identify normal rhythms and dysrhythmias; mount strips.
    • Accurately measure rhythm strips i.e., pp interval, ORS, ST character and rate.
    • Identify dysrhythmias requiring treatment.
    • Recognize emergency situations and respond according to NMC policy and procedures.
    • Identify interruption of monitoring signals and reports problems to licensed staff assigned to the patient.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Examples of Experience/Education/Training

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
    Will have proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

    Knowledge of:
    • Various medical supplies, instruments and equipment used in monitoring cardiac dysrhythmia in a medical facility.
    • Universal precautions for handling blood and body fluids.
    Skill and Ability to:
    • Assist physicians, nurses and nursing staff with procedures in the assigned specialized area.
    • Work cooperatively, effectively and calmly in emergency medical situations.
    • Organize and maintain clinical and procedural records and charts.
    • Observe and record observations of patients' EKG rhythms and notate any changes.
    • Communicate clearly and proficiently both orally an in writing at a level necessary to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.
    • Work cooperatively with physicians, nurses, patients and staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Obtain required CPR certification.

    An example of a way the requirements listed above might be acquired is:

    EDUCATION: Successful completion of an arrhythmia recognition course or successful completion of a certified nursing assistant/licensed vocational nurse program.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    • Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.
    • Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
    • Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven and clean driving record.
    • Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work.
    • Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays;
    • Incumbents may be required to work with potentially hazardous and infectious substances

    QUALIFICATIONS ASSESSMENT : To further assess applicants' possession of required qualifications, this process may include an oral examination, pre-exam exercise, performance exam, or physical ability exam.

    ELIGIBLE LIST : Applicants successful in the Qualifications Assessment process will be placed on an eligible list for possible final selection interview. This eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies.
