The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Equipment Maintenance Supervisorvacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Equipment Maintenance Supervisor position. DEFINITION :Supervises personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and fabrication of various kinds of equipment and tools, and in miscellaneous service functions.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :Positions allocable to this class report to a higher-level supervisor and are responsible for supervising positions engaged in the repair, maintenance, and fabrication of various kinds of equipment and tools used in a variety of services functions such as road maintenance, surveying, hospitals and facilities, and parks and recreation. Equipment Maintenance Supervisor positions also review and determine the nature and extent of repairs; assign and inspect work projects; and requisition, receive, store, and issue materials and equipment utilized by shops or work crews.
Essential Job Functions- Supervises the repair, maintenance and fabrication of equipment and tools used in: road maintenance and surveying; hospitals and institutions; and in parks maintenance and recreation.
- Determines nature and extent of repairs needed and job priorities; assigns and inspects completed work.
- Requisitions, receives, stores, and issues materials and equipment needed in operation of shop, or to equip survey party crews.
- Supervises furniture, office equipment and upholstery repair and fabrication work.
- Estimates material and labor costs for special jobs; makes sketches or diagrams and prepares materials list.
- Participates in preparation of budget for shop or for service functions supervised
- Enforces safe work practices, proper maintenance of shop equipment and tools, and for shop cleanliness.
- Maintains repair, maintenance and inventory records for a wide variety of equipment and tools.
- May drive automotive equipment in performance of duties.
- May supervise miscellaneous service functions such as: receiving, inspecting, and delivering office furniture and equipment and maintaining a surplus furniture storage unit; departmental moving and delivery service; assigning and dispatching vehicles and making arrangements for necessary maintenance and repair work; and repair and fabrication of locks and keys and maintenance of lock system.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :Four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment and tools, one year of which must have been in a specialized or supervisory capacity.
LICENSE :A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS :III - Moderate - Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT :During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. Those who achieve a passing score for this evaluation will be considered for permanent employment.
