    Job Summary

    The Police Wellness Specialist develops and implements wellness programs focused on fitness, exercise, and healthy lifestyles for the Orlando Police Department. Responsibilities include promoting wellness programs and activities to increase participation and engagement. Schedules and conducts wellness/fitness classes such as lunch and learn seminars, cardio and strength training sessions, yoga, stretching classes, and choose-to-move breaks to promote employee health and well-being. Performs comprehensive fitness and wellness assessments and provides suggestions for lifestyle improvements. Work is performed under the direction of the Training Lieutenant, and performance is reviewed through program evaluations and results obtained.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Exercise Physiology, Wellness, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience in fitness instruction, wellness programs, or health education required. CPR/First Aid required. Valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Nationally recognized group fitness, personal training, health/fitness instructor, or nutritional counseling certification required. Police background exam required. Polygraph required with the exception of current OPD employees.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
