The PositionAn Accounting Assistant provides accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, statistical, financial analysis and administrative support; processes, records, reviews and reconciles a variety of financial transactions; maintains multiple databases; keeps complete and accurate records of accounts payables, accounts receivables, reimbursable charges, project costing and cost accounting records.

The ideal candidate is someone who keeps humans at the center of their work, has a bias toward action, and is comfortable with ambiguity. They remain curious, are comfortable showing unfinished work to solicit input and feedback, and value a team environment where mutual support and accountability are primary.
The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for this position for up to one year. There is currently 1 (one) full-time vacancy in the Housing and Community Services Department.
Scheduled salary increases and Winter Time Off (WTO):
- 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/01/25
- 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/01/26
- 32.0 hours of paid Winter Time Off (WTO)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Experience and Education: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: Two years of progressive, directly related experience in financial record keeping work preferably including experience with a government agency.
Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in accounting, financial record keeping, or a closely related field. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year-for-year basis.)
License or Certificate*: A position assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
