    Under the supervision of the Equipment Repair Supervisor, the Mechanical Repairer performs the following duties:
    • Inspects, maintains, and repairs small gasoline powered tools and equipment such as chains saws, rotary saws, rotary fan smoke ejectors, jaws of life, hydraulic power packs, and small portable generators. And requisitions parts for the same.
    • Inspects, repairs, and maintains rescue ambulance patient gurneys and keeps record of annual gurney inspections.
    • Repairs and maintains fire hose, fire fighting nozzles, and related valves and manages used and salvage fire hose inventory.
    • Tests and inspects equipment upon completion of repairs.
    • Researches and orders related materials and parts, cleans and organizes shop area, and completes paperwork and data entry for all work performed.

    Emergency Appointment

    An emergency appointment is not a regular appointment. It is a temporary appointment which does not require that you successfully compete in the Civil Service examination process. The appointment may not exceed one year and must be terminated immediately when a regular appointment can be made from an eligible list. No emergency appointment can exceed one year. (City Charter Section 1013).
