Full-time position available with the General Services Department, Information Technology Division, located at 4800 E 63rd St.
Salary Range: $5,794-$8,833/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. with telework available after the completion of a 6 month probationary period.

Responsibilities
Work involves responsibility for day-to-day operation of a virtualized server environment including multiple hosts, and dozens of VMs. Employees of this class may assist lower-level IT staff with more complex technical problems and solutions. Under limited supervision, the IT Specialist coordinates department needs across the server environment. The IT Specialist is expected to make hardware, configuration, and software suggestions requiring high levels of technical competency to help meet organizational requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Functions as the team lead for the server administration team including day-to-day supervision and direction. Reports to the IT Supervisor.
• Ensures the server admin team effectively converts business needs into concrete action and keeps the team on task.
• Plans, supervises, reviews, and participates in complex projects in a competent fashion.
• Works with management to plan for future purchasing requirements regarding servers, storage, backups, and applications.
• Coordinates with management to determine and enforce best practices regarding server configurations, backups, and user access.
• Coordinates with Cyber Security team to ensure the security of the server environment.
• Develops and enforces procedures for upgrading hardware, OS, and server applications as needed.
• Performs product evaluations of hardware/software for feature improvements, feasibility or applicability to existing products being used by the organization.
• Provides staff training of server systems and applications, as needed.
• Creates and maintains documentation of server systems including configuration, procedures, and other pertinent information.
• Ensures team meets weekly KPIs regarding ticket completion, server up time, etc.
• Performs daily monitoring of the health and function of server hardware, storage hardware, virtual environment, and all VMs contained therein.
• Works with users, desktop support staff, application developers, and application administrators to resolve functional issues and accommodate new needs.
• Communicates maintenance windows or other system outages to all stakeholders.
• Manages and maintains backup systems to ensure recoverability in case of need.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude regarding embracing change and continuous improvement.
• Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 4 years of technology experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and technology experience.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
