About the Opportunity ABOUT THE POSITION: The Part Time Transportation Project Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Construction Engineering Division in reviewing contract documents for local, state, and federal compliance, reviewing project plans and specifications to ensure a project is biddable and constructable, perform field reviews as required, observe and inspect work being performed on job sites, and help support upper management in implementing new or revised standards and operating procedures.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and public service orientated Part Time Transportation Project Coordinator. The Part Time Transportation Project Coordinator is responsible for providing project support in the design, preconstruction, and construction phases of a project within the Construction Engineering Division. The ideal candidate is an experienced public works professional with exceptional technical, communication, and time management skills. The Part Time Transportation Coordinator will also support upper management in establishing or modifying current standards and operating procedures.

Public Works achieves this through its six major operating divisions of Administration, Engineering, Survey, Development Services, Heavy Equipment Shop and Operations/Roads. The Department strives to be the leading Public Works Department through innovative stewardship of infrastructure and environment.
Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide. Typical Tasks Typical Tasks: - Review construction plans, specifications, and provide comments and feedback as necessary;
- Project coordination between Public Works design, construction, and consultants;
- Represent the department at technical meetings;
- Attend preconstruction meetings;
- Review contractor submittal;
- Provide construction support;
- Perform related duties as maybe required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or Public Administration, Construction Management, or related field. Progressively responsible experience may be substituted for education requirement on a year-for-year basis; AND
- Five (5) years of full time, professional civil engineering, construction administration, traffic planning, or related field.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: - May be required to possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and meet County insurability requirements.
