Working with the Operations and Maintenance Division, and collaborating with the Engineering and Business Services Divisions, the SCADA Technology Analyst will help ensure that new and existing technical solutions uphold the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Sonoma Water’s critical infrastructure. Reporting to the Operations Technology Manager in the Operations and Maintenance Division, this role will be responsible for planning, designing, installing, analyzing, administering, maintaining, and upgrading our SCADA system by:
- Developing, troubleshooting, documenting, and modifying SCADA applications, including displays, trends, alerts, and reports
- Programming and configuring PLC's, input/output (I/O) servers, and real-time and historical systems
- Designing, administering, and maintaining communications to include routing, switching, and radio
- Implementing, troubleshooting, and modifying computer systems including user management, servers, and workstations
- Diligently maintaining cyber and physical security
- Researching and testing new technologies
- Participating in a 24/7 standby rotation with other team members to respond to operational issues
- Preparing technical and functional documentation for system operation, procedures, changes, communications, alarms, tags, and controls
- Collaborating with other Agency technical staff and vendors
- Training staff on SCADA system usage to include human machine interfaces, data retrieval, alarms, reports, and documentation
The ideal candidate will be an innovative and adaptable professional with extensive experience in SCADA systems as they relate to Water and Wastewater. They will also possess experience with many of the following:
- AVEVA System Platform, Historian, Reporting, and Insight
- Allen Bradley Control and Compact Logix controllers
- Rockwell Automation Factory Talk View Studio
- Kepware
- Cyber and physical security as it relates to industrial control networks
- Communication protocols and conversions, cabling (copper and fiber), and radio
- Working in water/wastewater and critical infrastructure
- Microsoft Windows, Server, Active Directory, etc.
- Technical documentation skills

Sonoma Water is a special district formed by the California State Legislature in 1949 and is responsible for providing a safe and reliable water supply to its customers in Sonoma and Marin counties. Sonoma Water also maintains 75 miles of flood control channels and provides sanitation services. Employees of Sonoma Water are employees of a special district and are not subject to the provisions of the Civil Service Ordinance of the County of Sonoma. This recruitment is being conducted to fill a Water Agency SCADA Technology Analyst at Sonoma Water. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list.

Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: Any combination of education and training that would provide the opportunity to acquire the above knowledge and abilities. Normally, this would include a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in computer science, information systems, or a related field, and four years of professional experience providing analytical support for enterprise or customized applications. Nationally-recognized, industry-specific technical certifications may be considered equivalent to college-level coursework for meeting the educational requirements. Experience working with SCADA or other automation systems in a water/wastewater environment is desirable.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.
The position advertised on this announcement requires possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Programs/Certifications: The Certified Associate program through the International Society of Automation must be successfully completed within 18 months of employment in this classification. The Water Distribution Operator Certification Grade I and the Water Treatment Operator Certification Grade 1 certifications Issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board are required within 18 months of employment in this classification. Once obtained, these certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment in this classification.
