We are looking for a passionate and experienced, cultural and community-focused leader to serve as the Culture & Arts Education Manager at the George Washington Carver Museum, Genealogy & Cultural Center.
This role requires more than just managerial skills - it calls for a committed leader with a strong background in African American and/or Black and Diaspora Afrikanhistory, arts, and culture. The ideal candidate will be someone with lived experience working alongside diverse communities, with a deep understanding of Black history, arts, and cultural expression. They will have a track record of curating meaningful cultural programs, events and preserving, promoting, and celebrating African American heritage, arts, and creative expression of the community. By cultivating creativity and community engagement, this individual will help ensure the Carver Museum remains a key space for education, cultural expression, and connections.
The ideal candidate possesses a curatorial vision aligned with the Carver Museum’s mission to tell stories about our local community and connect those histories to larger narratives about Blackness. Utilizing best practices for art installation, preservation, and transportation, they have curated culturally relevant and impactful exhibits about the Black experience. As a curious, creative, and compassionate leader, they prioritize building enduring relationships with artists through intentional collaboration and equitable business principles.

This individual must have experience leading arts or museum programs, developing strategic partnerships with artists, non-profits, and educational institutions, and engaging with diverse stakeholders to foster and sustain a thriving and innovative cultural hub.

This position will: - Coordinate organization’s programs and activities with other city and public organizations (both donor and collaborator opportunities).
- Supervise staff, including supervisory, professional and non-professional museum and facility employees.
- Review current and future museum and cultural center needs assessments and develop both short and long range plans to anticipate and meet those needs.
- Nurture and sustain positive relationships with artists, community partners and advisory groups.
- Develop, coordinate, operate, and monitor district or citywide facilities, programs, and events
- Develop, approve, and implement program guidelines for facility operations and use.
- Develop, approve, and implement marketing and promotion of exhibit opportunities, programs and events.
- Ensure proper maintenance of assigned facilities and equipment.
- Safeguard, manage and expand the city collection of art, artifacts and other valuables.
- Communicate project and program information to management and others as needed.
- Develop and monitor the budget for the assigned organization.
- Seek and obtain financial and other resources to fund operations.

Pay Range
$32.23 - $40.29
Hours
Monday-Friday; 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Variable work schedule. Some evenings, weekends, and holidays will be required.
Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:
