    The City of Ventura is hiring! We’re seeking an Accounting Technician to support asset management efforts in our Public Works Department - Fleet Maintenance Division.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative Public Works team that is vital to keeping the City’s Fleet operations running smoothly. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working with others, and brings accounting experience and strong data asset management skills to support the essential services our community relies on daily.

    What You’ll Do

    As our next Asset Management Accounting Technician, you’ll play a vital role in managing the full lifecycle of City fleet assets - from acquisition to disposal. You’ll help ensure vehicles are licensed, permitted, fueled, and accounted for properly while supporting day-to-day operational needs and maintaining regulatory compliance.

    Your key responsibilities will include:
    • Maintaining the Fleet Asset Management System for accurate lifecycle tracking of the City’s 460 vehicles and equipment, including all associated repair and maintenance costs.
    • Coordinating the acquisition and disposal of City fleet assets in accordance with procurement policies.
    • Administering vehicle licensing, State and local permits for fuel and emissions, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Accurately tracking and maintaining fuel inventory levels to support daily operations and emergency response readiness.
    • Calculating and filing Federal and State fuel taxes quarterly.
    • Maintaining detailed records to support internal audits and regulatory compliance reporting.
    • Manage Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) licensing and registration for City vehicles to ensure compliance and operational readiness.

    Experience and Qualifications for Success!

    A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent tocompletion of high schoolplussome college-level courseworkin bookkeeping or accounting, andthree yearsof increasingly responsible fiscal support experience related to the preparation and maintenance of financial, fiscal, and other accounting records, general accounting (accounts payable/receivable), bookkeeping, payroll processing, or asset acquisition/disposal related to the assigned area (fleet vehicle, payroll) which includes experience using automated information systems.

    An associate’s degree with major coursework in accounting is desirable.

    License: Class C California driver's license required.
