    Position Overview

    The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Principal Data Analyst in the Department of Utility Services. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.*

    Under general direction, plans, supervises, directs and oversees the design of data modeling/analysis services used to mine enterprise systems and applications; assists in building, deploying, and maintaining data support tools, metadata inventories, and definitions for database file/table creation; and performs other duties as assigned.

    *The current vacancy is within Infrastructure Support but this list can be utilized by all divisions should additional vacancies occur.

    Additional Position Information:

    The Principal Data Analyst in the Department of Utility Services, Infrastructure Support Section performs a variety of business, business intelligence, and data analysis work; designs and builds business intelligence reports and dashboards; performs advanced technical duties in support of a variety of initiatives using big data sets; assists in the implementation, administration and configuration of various department business applications; and provides support in the evaluation, design, documentation and implementation of programs and projects relating to data collection and or reporting that enhance core business processes.

    The ideal candidate will have a background in a government, public works or public utility, preferred experience in the water/wastewater industry. Knowledge of data mapping, modeling, collection, analysis, and interpretation methods. Ability to research, compile, and analyze large data sets and transform raw data into information and actionable insights using business intelligence tools and effective report writing techniques to communicate results. Effective communication skills and experience with writing and or reviewing technical documents are important for our candidate and having at least five years of experience utilizing data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau, and extensive experience with Power Query Editor, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Experience with managing or reporting on large data sources such as CMMS, CIS, Asset Renewal Forecasting Software, Enterprise Data Analytics Software, and any experience with ArcGIS is a plus. The ideal Principal Data Analyst candidate should have the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks under limited supervision and effectively manage, supervise, develop, coach, and train a small but highly functioning staff.

    Salary and Benefits
    • Competitive Salary Range of $91,084.92 - $136,627.38 Annually ; salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Computer Science, Statistics or a related field
    • Five (5) years of experience in data modeling/analysis services or assisting in building, deploying, and maintaining data support tools, metadata inventories, and definitions for database file/table creation
    • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, training may be considered
    • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
    • May need to complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six (6) months of hire/transfer and be recertified every year. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
    • Technical certifications related to specific job duties of your assigned area may be required
    • Desirable: Lead/Supervisory experience
