    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of the Credential Center (SSAC), the incumbent is responsible for learning the Credential Analyst functions such as reviewing, and evaluating the academic qualifications of credential candidates, the advising of enrolled students working towards completion of credential requirements, the advising of credential holders adding authorizations or renewing documents, the reviewing of academic qualifications of candidates requesting placement in student teaching or fieldwork assignments, the reviewing of academic qualifications of candidates eligible to enter university internship programs, the determination or denial of eligibility for state certification, and the recommendation, approval, and electronic submission of applications to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for issuance of credential documents. Incumbents at this level do not have the final authority to directly notify the Commission on Teacher Credentialing that a credential, certificate, or permit should be issued.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Responsible for learning how to determine eligibility of credential candidates for state teaching and service credentials, verifying or denying such eligibility, and eligibility for recommendation of credential candidates for licensure on behalf of the University.
    • Will learn how to advise CSU, Long Beach credential candidates, and those trained through other California professional preparation programs, those trained out-of-state and out-of-country, both in individuals’ sessions and in group settings, meetings, workshops, and seminars.
    • Refers difficult credential candidate cases for further review to the Credential Center (SSAC) Assistant Director. Corresponds with credential candidates, school districts, county offices of education, and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Work collaboratively with other staff and faculty in the college. Performs other duties as assigned in support of the Credential Center and educational programs.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Excellent attention to detail, organization, time management, and follow-up skills, along with a high sense of urgency, the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively. Strong people skills are necessary to build relationships, maintain communication, and support professional certification requirements. Analytical skills are crucial for quickly assimilating information, identifying problems, and making timely recommendations. A positive, customer service-oriented, and professional attitude is important, as is the ability to maintain the security of confidential information and accurate student records. Knowledge of general office procedures, information processing techniques, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are required. The ability to verify complex records, write correspondence, prepare reports, and maintain confidentiality is essential. During training, learning state standards and requirements for teaching credentials, processing applications, evaluating academic qualifications, and interpreting the California Education Code is necessary.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    Required Experience:
    • Equivalent to one year of experience evaluating academic qualifications of applicants for public school credentials, certificates or permits required.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Equivalent training and experience involving academic, administrative, fiscal or statistical record-keeping and processing or coursework involving the development of analytic skills.
    • University or college experience OR experience with K-12 education.
    • Bachelor's Degree preferred
    • Preferred knowledge in CMS/PeopleSoft and FileMaker Pro, Qualtrics, and DocuSign.

    Physical Summary
    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,613 - $6,548 per month.

    Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
