    Job Summary:

    Under the general supervision of the SSD Director, the Disabilities Specialist evaluates student eligibility and determines academic accommodations for those with moderately complex disabilities. This role provides academic and career guidance, supports alternative learning strategies, and promotes self-advocacy. The Specialist also advises faculty and staff on implementing accommodations and coordinates campus-wide support for SSD students.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Support students with disabilities across campuses through academic advising, accommodation planning, and case management.
    • Address student concerns, provide disability-related counseling, and make referrals to on- and off-campus resources.
    • Ensure legal compliance (ADA, Section 504, CSU policies) in accommodation decisions.
    • Collaborate with SSD staff on services such as notetaking, exam accommodations, and assistive technology.
    • Guide students in navigating SSD services and using accommodation software.
    • Coordinate Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) and assist with onboarding new students.
    • Maintain accurate records in accommodation tracking systems.
    • Monitor academic progress and follow up with students annually or as needed.
    • Support CARE team efforts and manage updates on graduating or re-activating students.
    • Consult with SSD team on complex cases and propose procedural improvements.
    • Provide voter registration support as required by federal and state guidelines.
    • Lead disability awareness trainings for faculty and staff.
    • Assist with programs that promote student access and retention.
    • Partner with community colleges, high schools, and agencies to support student transitions.
    • Mentor graduate interns and serve on campus/community committees.
    • Refer students to the WorkAbility IV (WA-IV) program and offer job-readiness guidance.
    • Educate students on disability disclosure and requesting workplace accommodations.
    • Attend trainings and uphold inclusive practices for diverse student populations.
    • Must have reliable transportation to drive between the San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses
    • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    • Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

    Required Qualifications
    • Working knowledge of relevant program practices, procedures, and activities
    • General understanding of organizational and program management challenges
    • Familiarity with research methods, interview techniques, and behavioral principles
    • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations effectively
    • Skilled in using initiative and resourcefulness for planning and long-term improvements
    • Capable of gathering, analyzing, and presenting data through interviews and research
    • Experience advising students individually and in group settings on routine matters
    • Culturally competent and respectful of diverse value systems (multicultural, multisexed, multi-aged)
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build cooperative relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, and external agencies
    • Quick to grasp campus operations, programs, and services
    • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and follow through with actions impacting multiple service areas

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with ADA, section 504, and working with individuals with disabilities
    • Ability to keep up with a fast-paced, environments with diverse personalities and job responsibilities within an office.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,083 - $5,669 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information:

    Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Probationary

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Conditions of Employment

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Drivers License Check

    Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

    Mandated Reporter

    The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
