    Summary

    This position performs routine janitorial and ground maintenance. Most work will be performed outdoors and will be subject to inclement weather and differing temperatures. Must be able to work independently with little supervision. This position reports to the Maintenance Foreman, and is exempt from the collective bargaining agreement.

    Essential Functions

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Performs routine cleaning of grounds, buildings, vehicles, and equipment which includes mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage containers etc.
    • Maintain landscaping, which includes mowing and edging lawns, and trimming shrubbery.
    • Paints WWTP equipment, structures, and related outlying facilities.
    • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.


    Qualifications

    • High School Degree or GED
    • Must be 18 years of age


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of:
    • Safety techniques and equipment as adopted by the Wastewater Utility and the Department of Labor & Industries.

    Ability to:
    • Use a high pressure power washer;
    • Use a weed eater;
    • Utilize a walk behind power mower and riding lawn mower;
    • Frequently walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, work in high places and around reciprocating machinery;
    • Communicate both orally and in writing;
    • Maintain quality working relationships with other City employees and the public during the course of work;
    • Maintain tact, patience and courtesy when communicating with customers, vendors, the public and staff;
    • Maintain composure when interacting with angry or upset individuals;
    • Work independently but remain a member of the team.
    • Work under pressure and meet deadlines.

    Skills in:
    • The use of an assortment of manual/power hand tools.

    LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
    • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required.
    • A valid CPR/First Aid and AED certification or the ability to acquire after hire.
    • Respirator Fit Test

    The City of Mount Vernon is a code city and a Mayor/Council form of government.     Mayor Donovan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Public Relations from Washington State University; and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
