    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Lieutenant Colonel, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in marketing, social media, public relations and recruitment. Responsible for performing a complete range of tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to, marketing and promotional programs; law enforcement observation, develop, plan, capture and execute creative social media content across various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, etc.). Write press releases and other news related content to be distributed across multiple platforms and in varying formats. Collaborate with other Texas Parks and Wildlife employees and recruiters to align social media strategies with overall marketing objectives. Monitor social media trends, audience preferences, and industry news to stay ahead of the curve. Engage with our community, respond to comments and foster positive online interactions. Contribute fresh ideas for social media campaigns and initiatives. Performs special projects/assignments and attends selected training programs to enhance the overall working knowledge and skills related to operational activities. Internship will also include a special project to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern, to meet both site needs and intern's educational and development. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months;

    Minimum of 60 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application;

    Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

    Experience:

    Licensure:

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    NOTE: Retention of internship contingent upon maintaining required license.

    Citizenship:

    Must be a citizen of the United States.

    Age:

    Must be 18 years of age by May 1, 2024.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Currently pursuing a degree marketing, communications, or a closely related field.



    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge in social media platforms and presenting the data behind them;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication (preferably news-style);

    Skill in establishing a creative mindset with an eye for visual aesthetics;

    Skill in managing several projects simultaneously, multi-tasking in a deadline driven environment;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

    Skill in working as a member of a team;

    Skill in exercising leadership qualities;

    Skill in with civic or community engagement;

    Skill in meeting deadlines;

    Skill in basic photography, image and video editing and graphic design skills;

    Ability to prepare reports;

    Ability to provide quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

    Ability to communicate effectively with the public utilizing written oral and visual means;

    Ability to handle cash and account for revenue collected;

    Ability to perform general maintenance;

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern;

    Required to work 20 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

    Required to pass a national fingerprint-based background check to maintain employment;

    Required to travel 25%;

    Must conform to TPWD Law Enforcement appearance and grooming standards (hair color, body piercings and tattoos will be addressed if giving a conditional offer of employment);

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
