    Major Duties

    Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Academic Personnel, and Payroll Operations (APPO), the Human Resources Payroll Technician will perform activities related to the daily tracking, maintenance, and distribution of paperwork and information through the APPO unit. The incumbent will be involved in coordinating and assisting with processing personnel-related transactions of student, staff, and faculty jobs, including Additional Pay.
    • Timely coordinates and prioritizes the receipt and tracking of Personnel Action Request Forms (PARs), and memoranda confirming approval and postponement of sabbatical/difference in pay leaves, Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) applications, non-retention, tenure, promotion, service retirement, personal and professional leave without pay, and extension of probation periods following approved leave action.
    • Uses a variety of tools including SOLAR HR, email, scanning, and Excel, is responsible for the process of tracking and renewing temporary appointments, and expiring visas, work permits, and licenses to ensure compliance with policy and timely completion of the process. Collaborates with the campus to produce, send, receive, and track documents.
    • Receives, reviews, and monitors Additional Pay exceptions communicated via phone or email inquiry. Coordinates with Faculty Affairs, recruiting services, and Payroll to ensure paperwork is complete and in compliance with established practices and procedures.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
    • Equivalent to one year of payroll or Human Resources experience in large volume transactional processing into an HRIS/payroll system, preferably Oracle's PeopleSoft HR.
    • Experience in a university or public sector environment preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    • Working knowledge of general office methods, practices and procedures. Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire working knowledge of, and independently select and apply, CSU policies, procedures, programs, guidelines, applicable state and federal laws, educational codes, and collective bargaining agreements.
    • Ability to or acquire the skill to, use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, electronic calendaring programs, ERP/HRIS, SOLAR HR, PIMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and data management systems.
    • Ability and specialized skills to audit and reconcile data; interpret and apply written rules and regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, and good judgment in responding to others using current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations; organize work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines; work independently; make sound decisions and recommendations regarding payroll activities; accurately enter data; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with others; and read and write at a level appropriate to the position.


    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
    • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
    • Classification: Payroll Technician / 1100 / 1
    • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3680 - $4200 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3680 - $5961 per month.
    • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
    • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
    • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
