Animal Care Division within the Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an
Registered Veterinary Technician to assist the professional medical staff assigned to animal shelter facilities by performing routine and para-professional duties related to the care and treatment of animals. Duties include, administering medications; post medical records; preparing animals for surgery; conduct training programs to educate shelter staff on animal first aid, disease recognition and prevention; perform humane euthanasia on animals as required; recommend appropriate procedures regarding the proper care and treatment of animals housed at the animal shelter facilities; assist with maintaining cleanliness of shelter facility; maintain records pertaining to medical treatments and medical supplies and, additional tasks as assigned by the DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine).
The resulting list may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur throughout the Animal Care Division.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
Visa Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Physical: Must be able to lift and restrain small to very large animals, both domestic and wild, which may weigh up to 100 pounds.
Environmental: Will be exposed to cleaning and disinfectant chemicals at commercial facilities and animal control shelters.
Travel/License: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
DEA Registration: Within 90 days of employment, candidates must obtain a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration to order and administer veterinary medical drugs at the animal shelter facilities.
Registered Vet Tech Certification: Employees must maintain an active Registered Veterinary Technician certification throughout employment.
Animal Euthanasia: Applicants must be able to perform euthanasia of sick, injured, or non-adopted impounded animals.
Availability: This position requires working on the weekends.
Candidates must indicate availability for weekend work on the application to be considered.
Minimum RequirementsRegistration: Must possess and maintain a valid Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Certificate issued by the State of California Veterinary Medical Board. Applicants must indicate number and expiration date in the
Certificates and Licenses section of the application.

competitive evaluation of qualifications based on the information provided in the Application and the Supplemental Questionnaire.
