About This Job
The Office of the State Public Defender has a vacancy. This job is Unclassified. This position is responsible for serving as the confidential executive assistant to the Louisiana State Public Defender, providing/performing advanced level administrative and programmatic support with delegated authority in assigned areas. The Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) regulates the delivery of legal services for indigent persons accused of crimes through dedicated, well-trained, and talented public defenders and support staff in all 64 parishes. AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:
- Communicating Effectively: The ability to convey information, ideas, and emotions using structured communication methods that promote understanding and engagement.
- Demonstrating Accountability: The ability to take ownership of actions, behaviors, performance, decisions, and outcomes.
- Following Policies and Procedures: The ability to follow, reinforce, adapt, or develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance with federal and state legal requirements, State Civil Service rules, and organizational policies.
- Making Accurate Judgments: The ability to assess options, weigh risks, and make sound decisions using available information and logical reasoning.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of experience in administrative services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR
An advanced degree plus two years of experience in administrative services.
Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Provide executive support;
- Serve as liaison between other state agencies/departments including but not limited to the Division of Administration, Office of Financial Support and Services, Office of State Buildings, Office of Risk Management;
- Interpret agency policies and procedures for staff;
- Serve as Safety Program Administrator and may serve as back up for backup back up support on other internal programs and/or special projects;
- Oversee and archive the District Defender Selection Process;
- Organize, prepare materials and attend meetings; transcribe, disseminate and archive meeting Minutes;
- Compile the State Public Defender's annual budget;
- Oversee and document mandatory training and other compliance issues;
- Maintain membership and appointment terms of and by the SPD
- May supervise one or more personnel

Compensation: Compensation is salaried and shall be commensurate with experience.
