Summary
Crossing Guard
Directs actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school zone speed limits.
This position is a non-supervisory classification and receives limited supervision, consulting with Field Supervisor in unusual situations.
Reports to: Community Resources Officer
Essential tasks:
- Patrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from school.
- Directs the actions of children and traffic
- Escorts children across the street
- Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limit
- Places and removes caution signs and cones
- Cautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistles and/or hand signals
Knowledge skills and abilities:
- This job requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities. The work also requires standing for long periods of time.
- Candidates must be able to think and react independently to various situations.
Special working condition:
- Works early mornings and afternoons (specific hours are determined when assigned to school)
- On occasion may be required to work specific assignments
- Incumbent works ten (10) months out of the year
Education and experience:
- Degree from an accredited high school, or GED.
Salary range - this is a part-time position in a non-unionized environment with an hourly rate of $15.00
