JOB TITLE: Crossing Guard
LOCATION: District
CHARACTERISTICS: Classified employee, Fall/Spring 5-month position, part-time 2 hours a.m. and 2 hours p.m. (Split Shift)
REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by Facilities Manager in accordance with the Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Personnel
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Crossing Guard ensures safe passage of students across busy intersections, serving as a visible and
authoritative presence to prevent accidents and promote orderly crossings.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Utilize traffic signals, cross walks, stop signs, flags, and/or hand signals to instruct drivers to stop or
proceed, creating safe gaps for pedestrians.
2. Guide and assist children and others in crossing safely, ensuring they follow proper crossing
procedures.
3. Maintain order as children approach the intersection.
4. Reports all unsafe conditions to the supervisor as soon as possible
5. Take personal responsibility to provide exceptional customer service in order to promote and maintain
a positive image of the school district.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Attends staff meetings as required.
2. Maintains professional competence through participation in District provided training activities related
to job responsibilities.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum 18 years of age.
2. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
3. Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to report and record them clearly and
completely.
4. Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
5. Ability to read English and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to speak effectively to children, parents, and school officials.
6. Valid First Aid/CPR Cards preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate degree of physical stamina. Ability to move freely and perform duties typically involving frequent
standing and walking. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel to designated intersections.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
$23/hour. Classified employee, Fall/Spring 5-month position, part-time 2 hours a.m. and 2 hours p.m. (Split Shift). Vacation, holiday, and benefits as specified in Board of Education Policy and Procedure Manual.
