Dispatcher

The City of Shreveport is seeking a Dispatcher for Water and Sewer work activities. This position operates assigned frequency band radios and multi-line telephone systems, answers telephones to receive and transmit messages, and receives customer complaints to relay to appropriate management personnel through verbal, written, and electronic communication.

The Dispatcher demonstrates knowledge and use of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and related documentation procedures. They generate, research, and update service requests in the work order system, access the billing system for inquiries only, and serve as the primary contact for utility locate requests, both routine and emergency, by gathering pertinent information to facilitate requests prior to excavation for Louisiana 811 One Call, city crews, and private contractors.

The Dispatcher serves as the central communications liaison during emergency events and during inclement weather for the Department of Water & Sewerage and other entities within the City of Shreveport. They participate in self-improvement and training to stay current with the latest developments. The position is shift work and may be assigned to work daytime, evenings, nights, or weekends. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid state vehicle operator's license, demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks, three years' experience in dispatch or call center operations, water and sewer experience preferred, ability to maintain harmonious working relationships, and ability to communicate and assist people at all levels with tact and diplomacy.
