Job OverviewCorrection Officer, O.C. #60066-420Recruitment for 4 vacant positions in the Genesee County Sheriff's Department, 15 Main St., Batavia, NY.Salary: $26.13 per hour (2026). Employment will begin with a probationary period of 8–52 weeks.Positions available to legal residents of Genesee, Erie, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans or Wyoming County.QualificationsLegal resident of any of the specified counties at the time of examination and for at least two months prior to the examination date.High school diploma or an equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Department of Education.At least 18 years old at the time of appointment.Valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment and maintenance throughout employment.Successful completion of a background investigation, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.ResponsibilitiesProcess the reception and discharge of detainees.Guard prisoners in the County Jail.Process ID cards and fingerprint cards.Inspect quarters for contraband.Maintain order and security during assigned shifts.Distribute mail, magazines, food trays, personal articles, etc.Assist in the transport of detainees.Make oral and written reports.Exam FormatThe examination is a Training & Experience questionnaire. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be scored based on their education, training, and work experience relative to the duties listed above.
