Correctional Officer 1 (CO2) – Coyote Ridge Corrections CenterPosition OverviewCorrectional Officers secure and maintain the safety of the facility, supervise inmate movement, and provide positive role modeling to aid in successful re‑entry into society. Key responsibilities include monitoring activities, upholding safety procedures, applying training and experience, and participating in overtime as required.Roles & ResponsibilitiesMaintain security of the institution and control inmate movement into, out of, and within the facility according to established department methods and procedures.Assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring inmate activities, maintaining a safe confinement environment.Serve as a positive role model, effectively communicate with inmates, and work to counteract criminal thinking.Complete required initial and ongoing on‑the‑job training, including the six‑week Correctional Worker Core (CWC) academy.Perform overtime duties as essential to the position.Maintain physical and mental conditioning to fulfill job duties.QualificationsGraduation from high school or GED.Valid driver's license.Legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm.One year of experience as a Department of Corrections Corrections & Custody Officer, including completion of the CORE academy and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program, or equivalent experience in adult or juvenile corrections with comparable security functions.Proof of eligibility for employment under federal I‑9 requirements.Successful completion of drug testing, psychological evaluation, baseline tuberculosis testing, and, where applicable, respirator medical evaluation and fit testing.Physical demands of the job may require work in potentially hazardous settings.Work Hours & CompensationFull‑time: $6,452 – $6,945 monthly. On‑call/hourly: $37.08 – $39.91 per hour. Positions are union shop.Benefits & TrainingAll correctional officers receive a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid sick leave, holiday pay, and paid vacation (if working 20 hours or more per week). On‑call staff attend six weeks of full‑time paid training immediately upon hire and may be considered for full‑time permanent or temporary vacancies.Important NotesEmployment is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check.Employees must comply with a drug and alcohol‑free work environment; a pre‑employment drug test will be conducted.Use of oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) is part of the job; applicants with sensitivities should request more information.Animal care projects are common; applicants with animal sensitivities should inquire about exposure.Baseline tuberculosis skin test must be provided within 60 days of hire; results are not employment contingent.Respiratory protection equipment may be required; employees must complete relevant training.Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time an offer is made; ranges include steps A‑M.Correctional Officer positions are covered by the Public Safety Employees' Retirement System (PSERS).
