This position is responsible for the protection of life and property through firefighting, rescue, and related duties. Duties include training and participation in the operation of firefighting apparatus and the performance of hazardous duties under emergency conditions. Work may require strenuous exertion under adverse conditions such as smoke, fire, heat, and cramped surroundings.When not engaged in firefighting or rescue activities, the incumbent is required to participate in drill and study programs and perform routine duties in the care and maintenance of station equipment, apparatus, buildings, and grounds. Work is usually performed under close supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assignments are given by a superior officer both in fighting fires and at the station.
