Offers of employment will be based on the candidate's relevant combination of education, experience, and demonstrated knowledge and abilities.SUMMARYAs a Firefighter for the Town of Hope Mills, you will perform a wide variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency medical and other emergency services; and provide highly responsible prevention activities including crash/fire rescue, inspections, and security.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSQualified candidates should possess the ability to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents; provide appropriate services as required including emergency rescue and fire suppression; perform search and rescue for trapped or injured persons; perform emergency medical and first aid services as needed; perform fire investigation activities; prepare a variety of response reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned.Drive and/or operate numerous types of rescue, emergency and fire suppression equipment and apparatus as necessary; operate, inspect, repair and perform other technical tasks related to maintaining the apparatus, equipment, and facilities in the area of assignment.Participate in cleaning and maintaining facilities, grounds, equipment, apparatus and hydrants within a respective district; ensure that appropriate conditions are maintained at assigned facility; ensure that all equipment and apparatus is in a constant state of readiness for emergency calls.Participate in a variety of fire prevention operations, activities and programs including training, fire investigations; code enforcement and equipment operation and maintenance; participate in activities and operations in response to natural disasters, major accidents, incidents involving hazardous materials, and other emergency situations; identify, analyze and avoid hazardous and dangerous situations.Respond to a variety of hazardous materials incidents; perform defensive or offensive activities which will be dependent upon levels of certification in accordance with state and federal regulations; maintain knowledge and training about hazardous materials.Performs other related tasks as required.QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Education and/or Experience:Entry LevelHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent.HAZMAT Ops IIntermediateCompletion of Entry Level qualifications AND5 years of paid firefighter experienceOther Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:Knowledge of the principles and procedures of code enforcement as it relates to minimum housing, public nuisances, and junk motor vehicles.General knowledge of building construction.Knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department relating to work responsibilities Ability to independently conduct complex inspections for compliance with standards/codes.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, staff, local jurisdictions, regulatory board members, etc.Ability to communicate concisely and effectively using various forms of communications including the production of clear and concise inspection reports.Ability to conduct training as necessary to various parties.Ability to manage caseloads and maintain sensitive timelines. Positions with direct interaction with minors will be required to provide a negative TB test and complete a fingerprint background check prior to any unsupervised contact with minors.Overtime Compensation Agreement:Consistent with the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, it is the town's policy to compensate non-exempt employees for overtime work with compensatory time off or overtime pay.
