The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC) Instructor provides instruction in aerospace science, leadership education, citizenship, character development, and community service to Collierville Schools students through the AFJROTC program. The instructor develops and leads classroom instruction, supervises cadet activities, promotes leadership and responsible citizenship, coordinates extracurricular programs and community service projects, and maintains program compliance with Air Force, Department of Defense, and District requirements. AFJROTC instructors serve as positive role models while fostering personal responsibility, academic achievement, and leadership skills in students.

Minimum Qualifications and Training:
Each AFJROTC unit must have at least two instructors, typically structured as:
One officer
One enlisted instructor
Additional instructors may be assigned based on student enrollment.
Officer Instructors:
*Must hold a minimum of a bachelor?s degree (over 90% have master?s degrees)
*Experienced in:
o Teaching and instruction
o Program management
o Youth leadership development
Enlisted Instructors:
*Must hold at least an associate degree (most hold bachelor?s degrees or higher)
*Bring expertise in:
o Leadership and supervision
o Logistics and administration
o Drill and ceremony instruction
o Teaching and mentoring youth
*Other duties may be required and assigned.
*Exemplary and in person attendance required.
Primary Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Instructors share academic, administrative, logistical, financial, and extracurricular duties. Successful instructors must be able to perform the following:
1. Conduct Academic Classes
*Teach 4-6 class periods daily (45-90 minutes each)
*Manage classrooms of 30+ students with diverse backgrounds
*Requires strong:
o Organization
o Patience
o Communication skills
2. Lead Before/After-School Activities
*Coordinate Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs)
*Activities include:
o Physical training
o Drill and ceremonies
o Academic competitions
o Rocketry and marksmanship teams
*Requires physical stamina and team-building ability
3. Lead Off-Campus Events
*Supervise cadets on:
o Field trips
o Military base visits
o Government and historical site tours
o Parades and public events
*Requires calm decision-making under pressure
4. Serve as an Air Force Ambassador
*Represent the Air Force with professionalism at all times
*Maintain:
o Exemplary conduct
o Professional communication
o Proper military appearance in uniform
5. Meet Local School Requirements
*Complete state and district certification requirements
*Fulfill all continuing education mandates
*Typically completed at no cost to the Air Force
6. Utilize Educational Technology & Administration
*Integrate AFJROTC- approved technology into instruction
*Maintain proficiency in:
o Curriculum planning
o Drill and ceremonies
o Student assessment and evaluation processes
7. Complete Mandatory AFJROTC Training
*Successfully complete all required Air Force training programs
*Maintain ongoing professional development as required
Professional Conduct & Safety
AFJROTC instructors operate in a highly visible role often described as living in a glass house. They are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of personal and professional conduct while meeting all Department of Defense, Air Force, and AFJROTC requirements.
Safe Zone Mandate
The AFJROTC environment must remain a safe, inclusive space, completely free from:
*Bullying or hazing
*Physical discipline
*Sexual harassment
*Inappropriate comments
*Racial or gender bias
*Any perception of the above behaviors
Community & Cadet Engagement
AFJROTC instructors serve as educators, mentors, and community leaders. Their responsibilities include:
*Teaching aerospace science and leadership education curriculum
*Acting as liaisons between the Air Force and civilian aerospace organizations
*Providing career guidance and performance counseling to cadets
*Supervising cadets during:
o Unit events and ceremonies
o Community service projects
o Drill competitions
o Curriculum-in-action trips
o Military base visits
