Your future starts here.Purpose of the PositionAs a Train Dispatcher you will learn the business from the ground up through a 12‑18 month fully paid training program that prepares you for the position as a Train Dispatcher and future careers within CPKC. You control the movement of trains and engineering track crews across CPKC's rail network through a series of control systems.This position offers excellent challenges as you are responsible for planning and scheduling trains through a geographical region in the most efficient and safest manner. You will make business decisions, solve problems, communicate clearly and effectively, and coordinate to ensure minimal delays and the smooth, safe movement of trains in an assigned territory.Position AccountabilitiesIssue Track Authorities for all train and engineering movements on assigned territory, in accordance with the rules, and in a safe and efficient mannerRecord information as required by CPKC and the Federal GovernmentEscalate train delays or exceptions to the Director Dispatching and participate in recovery plansManage work events and train launches to ensure prompt movement of cars when billedCommunicate with individuals at all levels of the organizationAbility to form a good understanding of physical characteristics of the railroad and become familiar with train operations and associated rulesPosition RequirementsHigh school education or General EquivalencyThorough knowledge of the General Code of Operating Rules, Timetables, Operations Supervisor Manuals, and Notices, including passing of required exams1‑year previous Train Dispatcher or comparable experienceStrong computer skills and the ability to master computerized train control applicationsMust be available, within a 2‑hour call, to work all shifts including overnights, holidays, and weekendsAbility to work with minimum supervision and make decisions under stressful circumstancesAbility to pass a color vision testWhat CPKC Has to OfferFlexible and competitive benefits packageCompetitive company pension and/or retirement plansEmployee share‑purchase planAnnual fitness subsidyPart‑time studies programPre‑Employment RequirementsMedical and drug testing.
