The Technologist SME will serve as a senior technical authority across federal C5I systems, providing expertise in networking, cybersecurity, and enterprise integration to support modernization efforts across the DoDIN. This SME ensures that modernization efforts across C5I systems are not just technically correctbut operationally effective, validated, and delivered with precision.

This role ensures that solutions are technically sound, validated in lab environments, and executable at scale across client operational assets. Where others design, this role ensures it works - in the lab, in the field, and at client locations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Supports federal modernization initiatives, including:

Enterprise SD-WAN / GuardianNet Gateway

Secure wireless and identity services (ISE)

Automation (Ansible, CI/CD pipelines)

Integration with federal C5I systems and DoDIN transport

This SME operates across:

Lab validation (C5I / CYKOR environments)

Engineering design and advisory

Field execution and troubleshooting

C5I Technical Expertise & Advisory

Serve as SME across federal C5I systems, including networks (afloat and ashore), communications systems and cybersecurity architecture

Provide authoritative guidance to engineering teams, PMO, program leadership and government stakeholders (e.g., TWH, ISSM)

Architecture & Engineering Support

Support design and integration of enterprise SD-WAN solutions, identity and access services (e.g., Cisco ISE) and secure network architectures aligned to DoDIN

Review and validate HLDs / LLDs, implementation plans and engineering change proposals

Lab Validation & Technical Testing

Lead or support validation efforts within federal C5I and CYKOR SD-WAN / integration lab

Define acceptance criteria, performance metrics (e.g., SD-WAN vs legacy routing) and failure and resiliency scenarios

Ensure solutions are proven prior to deployment

Operational Integration & Field Support

Support deployment across cutter environments (afloat constraints), shore units and enterprise gateways

Troubleshoot network performance issues, transport variability (SATCOM, terrestrial, emerging options like Starlink)

Provide rapid technical resolution for issues impacting mission operations

Cybersecurity & Compliance

Ensure solutions align with RMF requirements, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) STIGs and federal C5I security policies

Support ATO development/sustainment and vulnerability remediation/audit readiness

Automation & Innovation

Support development of automation playbooks (Ansible, scripting) and network monitoring and reporting tools

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce manual configuration and enhance operational visibility

Stakeholder Engagement

Interface with C5I stakeholders (NET, SEC, TWH), prime contractor PMO and CyKor delivery leadership

Provide technical input during PMO syncs, engineering review boards and executive briefings

Requirements

Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field

10+ years of experience with network engineering and architecture in federal environments

Demonstrated expertise in C5I systems or similar DoD architectures and enterprise network design/operations

Recognized technical authority with strong problem-solving ability

Ability to translate complex systems into actionable engineering guidance

Strong communication with technical and leadership stakeholders

Mission-focused mindset with emphasis on execution and reliability

Ability to operate across lab, design, and field environments

Active Secret clearance or higher

Technical Requirements

Deep expertise in routing/switching (BGP, OSPF) and WAN technologies and transport resilience

Hands-on experience with Cisco technologies (SD-WAN, ISE, routing platforms) and Firewalls (FTD or equivalent)

Experience with automation (Ansible, Python), lab-based validation/testing and troubleshooting in operational environments

Certifications:

DoD 8570/8140 compliant: CompTIA Security+ (minimum)

Preferred:

o Cisco CCNP / CCIE

o CISSP

o Red Hat / automation certifications

Preferred Skills:

Prior experience supporting federal C5I programs and float (cutter) communications environments

Familiarity with PKI integration (auto-enrollment, secure onboarding) and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)

Experience working within integration labs (C5I or equivalent) and large-scale enterprise deployments

Location and Travel:

  • Remote/hybrid schedule with availability for some on-site work at client locations in the Washington, DC area.
