Fire Prevention Inspector
Technical inspection and law enforcement work to ensure compliance with city fire prevention regulations and ordinances and related Fire Department policies; investigative work to determine the origins and causes of fires as well as departmental investigations as directed by the Superintendent; public relations work in encouraging the use of fire prevention methods; and related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
(Promotional) Current probationary status as a Fire Prevention Inspector, Recruit and six (6) months of experience in that classification. (Entrance) High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma. Five (5) years of experience in either of the following fields: fire prevention, firefighting (work must have required a firefighter certification accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications), or law enforcement (work must have required Peace Officers Standards and Training Council certification). Certification as a Fire Inspector I by the International Code Council (ICC), or by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) or certification accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications. Peace Officer Standard Training (POST) Certification from a Louisiana State approved academy.
A background check will be conducted on those candidates being considered for hire. Convictions for felonies or numerous misdemeanors may be disqualifying. * Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify professional licenses/certifications claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
Kind of Examination
A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years. This is an original entrance and promotional examination.
