OverviewParamedic, Full Time NightsPiedmont Eastside Medical Center - Emergency DeptWe are looking for positive, self-motivated, engaged and excited for growth individuals to join our team38 bed Emergency Department that sees on average 160 patients a day that present with various acuities.We are a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving facility that is able to intervene and administer thrombolytics.Two helicopter pads on campus for utilizationWe have 5 PODs in our department, depending on acuity, is where the patient will be assignedBehavioral Health PodWe have Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians and Unit Secretaries who work in close collaboration with the ED Providers to provide exceptional careAll staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit. RNs must have ACLS and PALS required. NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.ResponsibilitiesThe Paramedic, under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician is responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Paramedic participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of health care services and task. The role of the Paramedic Nurse Extender also, includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and the oversight of unlicensed personnel.Must have a working knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, intravenous, and intravenous push medications – effect, side effects, drug to drug interaction and anaphylaxis protocol. Working knowledge of venous blood sampling, and cardiac monitor knowledge.Working knowledge of the body systems to include neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, primary and secondary trauma assessment.Must have strong customer service, interpersonal skills and be able to work with a team. Responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age appropriate and culturally aware needs. Able to assess a patient's needs and respond to direction by the Professional Registered Nurse and Physician.Perform EKG'sPerform Foley cathetersStart IV's, IO's & draw blood.Transport patients to other departments.May be required to monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms and changes immediately to Charge Nurse and Nurse.Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesSkill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.Ability to work as a member of a team.Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.The above information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
