Overview
The Environmental Superintendent manages and supervises environmental facilities and programs for the City of Corpus Christi, including the airport, marina, transfer station, landfill, Underground Storage Tank Programs, and MS4 storm water compliance efforts. This position ensures regulatory compliance of more than 3000 industrial facilities and all active construction sites located in the cities extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
• Monitors permit conditions, review operational data for accuracy, prepare required reports and documentation and ensure all environmental programs meet regulatory standards
• Provides leadership and direction to supervisory personnel, operational staff and contractors
• Assigns work, evaluates performance, recommends personnel actions, and trains employees to improve technical knowledge, process understanding, and overall job performance
• Manages and oversees environmental facilities operated by the City of Corpus Christi, including airport, marina, transfer station, landfill and other assigned environmental areas
• Conducts industrial inspections and construction inspections
• Ensures facilities are operated efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal requirements
• Participates in the preparation and monitoring of annual operating and capital improvement budgets
• Develops cost estimates, prepares justification for supplies, materials, equipment, repairs and works to ensure expenditures remain within approved budget limits while supporting efficient operations
• Oversees preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and uninterrupted operations
• Participates in safety programs and promotes a safe work environment
• Communicates and coordinates effectively with employees, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public on operational, compliance and safety matters
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)
• Four (4) years of experience
Certifications, Licenses or other requirements
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within Six (6) months
• Texas UST A/B Certification - Texas A/B Underground Storage Tank Operator
• Qualified Compliance Inspector of Stormwater
• Qualified Preparer of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
• Certified Hazmat Technician
