Fire Code Inspector
The City of El Paso is seeking a Fire Code Inspector. This position offers a competitive salary range of $49,502.54 to $73,263.77 annually and is available in various locations within the city. This is a civil service position with job number 17311-0326 within the Property Maintenance & Nuisance department. Applications are accepted continuously until a sufficient number of qualified applicants have been received.
To qualify for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, or higher, along with four years of experience in fire code inspection and enforcement, and one year of lead or supervisory experience in a fire code inspection and enforcement program. Licenses and certifications required include a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by date of hire, and certification as a Texas Fire Inspector in compliance with Texas Commission on Fire Protection Standards of Education (TCFPSE) within six months of appointment. Additionally, candidates must be certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Fire Inspector I within twelve months of appointment and as an ICC Fire Inspector II within eighteen months of appointment.
The general purpose of this role is to supervise and coordinate inspection activities related to the enforcement of the fire code and designated municipal codes, laws, and ordinances to ensure life safety throughout the city. Typical duties include supervising staff, performing fire prevention inspections, issuing summons for uncorrected fire hazards and code violations, conducting fire prevention programs, and overseeing and scheduling the unit's workload.
