Security Controls/Control Center OperationsJob Responsibilities include the following duties:Monitor keys, radios, and other security equipment including fire system alarms, distress calls, and control of interior and exterior door locks.Operate electronic doors, telephone systems, two‑way radios, intercoms, alarm systems, closed‑circuit TV systems, personal data assistants, computer terminals, and use weapons/incarcerated individual control devices.Facility patrol: patrol facilities, conduct security checks, rounds, and incarcerated individual counts; inspect all areas for safety/security deficiencies.Conduct searches of incarcerated individuals, vehicles, packages, equipment, and cells for contraband items.Perimeter patrol: patrol perimeter periodically to assure perimeter security, check fences, monitor vehicle traffic, and maintain radio communication with other staff; search vehicles entering or leaving grounds; provide security, safety, and fire watch for all buildings on grounds.Serve as a weapons post.Transportation and escort services: transport inmates on and off the grounds; escort incarcerated individuals, visitors, and staff inside/outside the institution and verify possession of appropriate passes or legal documents.Interact with the general public, visitors, and victims in person or via phone in a professional and courteous manner.Provide information, security, and assistance.Interpersonal Interactions and Core Correctional PracticesDemonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding of core correctional practice skills.Continuously interact with incarcerated individuals, utilizing behavioral techniques to assist them in developing problem‑solving skills, facilitating behavior change, role‑playing, effective disapproval, providing positive reinforcement when appropriate, and instituting corrective measures through the effective use of disapproval.Act as a change agent, using behavioral modeling and interactions to prepare incarcerated individuals for successful community reentry.E‑Verify and Right to Work: The State of Iowa participates in E‑Verify to confirm employment eligibility of new hires. All employees are required to comply with federal Right to Work laws.Minimum Qualification RequirementsGraduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.Additional Qualification RequirementsSuccessfully pass psychological tests.Background investigation check.Post‑offer health screen administered by an institutional physician.Urinalysis screen for drugs.All new employee training during the probationary period, including local orientation, new employee orientation, and emergency preparedness training.Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain a Commercial Driver's License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.#J-18808-Ljbffr
