ResponsibilitiesServes as Supervisory Firefighter responsible for overall supervision of Fire Protection and Prevention Programs, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program, and the Hazardous Material Response (HazMat)/WMD Program.Responsible for implementation of training, administration, budget, and equipment procurement for the above programs.Serves as technical advisor to management on all matters relating to fire protection and prevention, EMT, and HazMat/WMD issues and projects.Supervises actual firefighting activities of the installations by implementing procedures, techniques, and methods for rapid and effective response to fire calls.Assists the Fire Chief in maintaining ongoing contacts with management and employees to promote the Prevention Program.RequirementsAppointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination based on completed background investigation.Requires completion of pre-employment and periodic medical examinations in accordance with DoDM 6055.06.Requires ability to lift up to 75 lbs in regular duties.Must comply with Federal and Army drug‑free workplace programs; drug testing may occur.Requires pre‑employment screening and random testing thereafter.Works shifts covering evenings, weekends, holidays; rotates on a 48‑hour shift schedule with 144 hours per pay period.Requires planned and unscheduled overtime; may perform mutual aid support to local fire departments.Must possess or obtain a valid state driver's license in the U.S.Requires successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.Requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.Position includes one‑year probation to assess supervisory duties.Conditions of EmploymentThis position is supervisory as defined by OPM's General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).Eligibility for benefits depends on full‑time, part‑time, or intermittent status.QualificationsIn order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work. Positive experience is required; education may be substituted only in rare cases (for this job no substitution).One year of specialized experience including: (1) performing firefighting work with use of firefighting and prevention techniques and methods such as search and rescue, operating hose lines, ventilation; (2) scheduling or conducting inspections, testing, or preventive maintenance service on apparatus or equipment; (3) assisting in a fire prevention program, EMT program, or hazardous material response program.Selective Placement Factors: Must possess and maintain the following certifications (upload at application): Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Incident Command, EMT Basic or higher issued by State of Illinois or National Registry.Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
