Job Summary

The Firing Range Master supports firearms training operations by coordinating daily activities at assigned firing ranges. This position ensures range facilities, target systems, and support equipment are properly prepared and maintained to support scheduled training exercises. The Rangemaster works closely with instructors and training staff to ensure safe, efficient, and organized range operations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare firing ranges and training areas prior to scheduled firearms training activities.
  • Set up, maintain, and replace targets, barricades, and other range equipment used during training exercises.
  • Coordinate with instructors and training staff to ensure range readiness and support training schedules.
  • Monitor range operations to ensure compliance with established safety procedures and facility guidelines.
  • Issue, collect, and maintain accountability of range equipment and support materials.
  • Inspect range facilities and equipment for serviceability and report maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of targets, consumables, and other range supplies.
  • Ensure range areas remain clean, organized, and ready for training operations.
  • Support instructors with logistical needs during training events.
  • Report safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or operational issues to supervisory personnel.

Required Qualifications and Education
  • Prior experience supporting law enforcement or military firearms training ranges.
  • Familiarity with range target systems, equipment maintenance, and training support operations.
  • Experience working within a federal training environment or contractor support role.
  • Knowledge of firearms range safety practices and procedures.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required FLETC access credentials.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors on firearms training ranges and associated support areas.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout range facilities.
  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Exposure to loud noise typical of firearms training environments; hearing protection is required.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of range equipment, target frames, and training materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to transport and position training supplies and equipment across range areas.
  • Must follow all range safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Travel: 0-15%
