Sterling Personnel Inc. is looking for a Marine Technician Helper to help support their licensed Marine Service Technicians in the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of fire suppression and detection systems aboard marine vessels and offshore facilities. This role also assists with handling, transporting, and servicing safety equipment in both shop and field environments.

General Duties

  • Assist technicians with inspections, servicing, and repairs of fire safety systems and equipment.
  • Work efficiently under time-sensitive conditions while maintaining safety and professionalism.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Always represent the company in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., USCG, DOT).
  • Assist with servicing fire extinguishers, cylinders, and onboard safety systems.
  • Load, unload, transport, and handle equipment (50-350 lbs).
  • Complete required documentation (inspection reports, certificates, delivery receipts).
  • Travel to job sites, including vessels, docks, and offshore locations.
  • Follow direction from senior/lead technicians on all job tasks.
  • Assist with inspection, testing, repair, and repacking of life rafts.
  • Handle and restock emergency equipment (flares, water, rations, first aid kits).
  • Maintain life raft inventory, tools, and workspace organization.
  • Support receiving, logging, and coordinating life raft service jobs.
  • Ensure accuracy of shipping/receiving documentation.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and availability, including on-call duty.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or GED required; technical training preferred
    • 1-2 years of related experience preferred
    • Ability to read instructions and communicate effectively
    • Basic math and computer skills (Word, Excel)
    • Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills
    • TWIC Card (required for port access)
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Lift 50+ lbs regularly
    • Bend, squat, kneel, and climb ladders
    • Work in confined spaces and at heights
    • Operate tools and mechanical equipment
    • Travel frequently (local and international
