Long Beach Elementary School COMPENSATION: $16.00/hour *Please note that the hourly rate of pay is inclusive of the mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal RetirementFund (IMRF).

UNION MEMBERSHIP:This position is represented by the Oswego Transportation Association (OTA).

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Ability to work independently, with a minimum of supervision and utilizing good time management skills.
  • Ability to use a hand-held stop sign, flashlight, two-way radio.
  • Stamina to stand for long periods of time, mobility to escort pedestrians across streets.
  • Ability to work out of doors in all weather conditions and with exposure to traffic.
  • Adequate vision to read printed materials and license plates, and hearing and speech to communicate in person.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility in assigned areas
  • Assist school-age children to cross public streets safely by directing and/or regulating vehicular and pedestrian traffic at specified intersections
  • Watch for suspicious persons and/or vehicles that may prey upon young children
  • Provides a safe adult presence that young children may go to when they need assistance while going to and from school
  • Monitor and report any unusual or strange behavior or events to the security team/supervisors
